Subject: Update on Comus
Dear Comus Revelers:
First off, I would like to say that I'm very excited to see you all again next
Friday, and with Tony & the Tigers playing, it is sure to be a great event!
Secondly, I would like to say that the Board really appreciates all the feedback
we have received regarding this upcoming 2008-2009 season. After reviewing all
the members' comments, and meeting with the Board this morning, we have come up
with a plan to encourage as many members (and past members) as possible to
attend some, if not all, the dances.
Over the last couple of years, we have seen our budget rise dramatically. The
Board has done everything we can do, to make our members aware of these rising
costs, along with trying to set up these events, and make them affordable as
well. What we have found this year, is that with these rising costs,
members who previously would pay for a whole year, but could only attend a few
of the dances, are now not going to any dances at all. As we are short
membership this year, we felt we needed to make a change to our policy of paying
for less than a full season.
Therefore, we will do the following: If you want to attend for the season,
you will be able to go to all 5 dances for $650.00 (for $130/couple/dance).
We will also make available to our members, who may only be able to attend 2 or
3 dances, the ability to pay for fewer dances, at a cost of
$150.00/dance/couple. If you are attending the first dance next Friday
night, we ask that these funds be paid by next week. If you are attending
future dances, but cannot attend the first dance, we ask that these funds be
paid by the end of October. I would also strongly encourage members to ask
their friends and see if they may want to join up as well, this will only help
us out as we go along through the year. Once people have paid up, and
committed to their number of dances, we cannot give refunds back. We will
still have guests at the Holiday Gala, and the last dance of the year.
Guests will also pay $150.00.
One important note: the costs of these events are wholly dependent upon the
number of people who attend. In other words, the budget will be a fluid
item and will be constantly adjusted based on participation as we go throughout
the year. We will do everything we can to keep the members updated on how
things are going along, and if we need to modify or change anything about these
events. For now, it is our goal to provide 5 of the best events, and make
this the best year ever for Comus!
The Board has received numerous comments and feedback from the members about how
we should move forward this year. We appreciate EACH AND EVERY comment!
However, please note that with a group as large and varied as Comus, there are
numerous opinions and points of view. The above structure has been
created, as it was far and away the most popular way people felt we should
proceed through the year. As this is a new structure for Comus, we may
need to modify it as we go along. We hope that everyone will get behind
the board and support Comus this year! Also, we trust that the members
will give us the necessary feedback to allow us to change, if need be,
throughout the year.
We hope that this is workable solution for all of our members, and hopefully,
for the members that could only attend 2 or 3 dances, that you attend those
dances that you can. I look forward to another great year of Comus, and as
always, we value your feedback!
Regards,
Brian
