Hello Comus Members!

 

Hello Comus Revelers!  I’m so sorry we are getting this letter out to you so late!  In case you haven’t heard though, I do have a pretty good excuse.  My wife, Jody and I welcomed little Kayleigh Finnegan into the world!  By the way, Kayleigh is Gaelic for “party or celebration”.  So, in that vein, on to the celebrations! 

 

We are really excited for the 2008 – 2009 Comus Season!  The board will remain in tact, other than we have reduced the secretary position to one person.  In addition, based on feedback last year along with this year’s budget, we have reduced the total number of “paid” positions down to one – 50% for the treasurer and 50% to the secretary.  The following is your 2008 – 2009 board:

The following are the dates that we have booked, along with the bands that are reserved.  I appreciate all of Mark Schlichting’s help on working with us again this year, in booking the bands.  As usual, all dates are Friday nights:

 

October 17, 2008:                                           Tony & The Tigers

December 12, 2008:                                        Atlantics

February 13, 2009:                                          The S Curves

March 13, 2009:                                              Motown Cruisers

May 1, 2008:                                                   Walrus

 

We have also attached an itemized budget for the members review.  As you will see, our costs have gone up, and for the 5 dances, the cost will be $650 per couple for the year.  I understand that this cost increase over last year’s increase comes as a surprise.  It does for all of us on the board as well.  The largest cost increase was that food and beverages went up $10/per person.  Leaving our costs based on 65 couples at $710.00 for the season.  Due to our tight budgeting last year, we were left with a surplus of $2,000.  We are hoping that this will provide the necessary buffer to cover any overages of the budget.   Keep in mind that this is based on 65 couples, and if we are able to get a few more couples in this year, this will also help us with our budget!  One important note – the one thing that really helped last year, was having guests on guest night.  We were able to make about $20.00 per couple.  Please keep this in mind for our guest dances (December 12th, and May 1st)

 

Our goal is to get the club to its top membership of 80 couples.  Based on membership feedback and our budget, we felt we didn’t need to pay for invitations, so we are doing this solely based on this email.  Please respond via email, so we can get an accurate count for members this year.  We believe that we will only have a few spaces left, so let us know as soon as you can!  Spots will be reserved upon receipt of a check for membership.  We would like to have all dues received by October 1, 2008.
